Over the past two weeks I've been observing and shadowing some of the 'Wider Ops' instrumental classes in Cheshire.
I was shadowing the Woodwind tutor and also stood in for the brass tutor at a couple of schools.
It was really interesting to see and take part in the classes and experience the various approaches to teaching different groups of students to work together as a group and also to have fun making music; even at the most basic level.

Recently had a meeting with the deputy head and the head of music in a local school about some instrumental teaching.
From September I am going to be the piano and woodwind tutor, taking some individual piano lessons and group woodwind lessons, including Clarinet, Flute and Saxophone students.
There is also the possibility of running a student orchestra with the other peri teachers later in the year, and getting involved in the Rock School.
Seems a lovely school and striving for excellence so I'm really looking forward to meeting my new pupils and being part of the teaching staff there.

Playing at the House of Fraser has proved successful so far, there has been some interest in lessons, and last week I had a new student start who had picked up my card from the store.
With two new students this month, its starting to get busy at the moment but I'm enjoying every minute.
I will be at House of Fraser Huddersfield again tomorrow (Tuesday) from 11.30 -13.30, come and enjoy some lunch and some easy listening music.

Not been at House of Fraser this week because I was at a course in Thirsk North Yorkshire.
The course was about 'Singing and signing' and using this with groups and pupils of different ages and abilities.
It was a very interested and enjoyable day, I learnt a lot and got lots of information.
There people from 'Live music now', 'Accessible arts and media' who have a 'hands and voices choir', 'Sing Up' and 'Music leader' sharing with us and leading the sessions.
Check out their websites for more about the organisations:

Maybe not the most usual of birthday presents, but one of my new students was bought some piano lessons by a family member for her birthday this year.
What a lovely idea to encourage someone you know, whether a friend or family member to do something they've always wanted to and buy them a lesson or session of lessons.
If you're interested and would like to discuss further then why not get in touch on
