Alto and me reunited soon
Spoken to Octave Above Huddersfield again today and hoping to soon be reunited with my Alto Sax, I have missed him very much this last month.
Hope to pick him up today, it has been over a month so he should be sorted by now.

Looking forward to being able to teach and play with a healthy Saxophone and be able to get into some jazz again.

Sick Saxophone
Poor Alto Saxophone has to go to the instrument hospital. Two lovely, very cuddly but crazy black and white kittens knocked him off his stand. Some keys no longer work and a bent bell is not a good thing when trying to perform or teach students.

Hope Octave Above Huddersfield can sort him out soon please

Greg Fishman Books
I've recently been getting into some of Greg Fishman's Jazz Sax books: Jazz Saxophone Etudes Volume 3 and Jazz Saxophone duets.

My favourite etudes at the moment are: 'Broadway street' a C blues, and 'Cermak Road' a Bossa Nova and from the duets I particularly like 'North Avenue' a medium swing, and 'Harlem Avenue' a great Ballad.

I like the flexibility of playing Alto or Tenor with the etudes and with the duets, two altos, two tenors or Alto and Tenor gives opportunity and variety of playing with different set ups, and the CDs support all set ups.
The backing tracks are brilliant to play with, whether playing round and round the etude or using it for improvising over the chords the rhythm section are great.
The book and CDs are a great resource for some intermediate/advanced Jazz Saxophone practice, with some useful style and analysis tips at the beginning.

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting into these pieces and I'm interested to try the other Etude volumes and using some of them in my Saxophone lessons.

Plasticover reeds
I recently purchased some Rico Plasticover reeds. This is my first try of any sort of plastic/synthetic reeds and so far I've been quite impressed with these reeds.

Hoping for quicker response when doubling instruments in band situations and resisting too much moisture I think these reeds will be a good option to have available.

I hope not to be throwing any of these out due to mould, and they also look pretty cool with the black covering.
